Government can collect 50 billion rupees on 3G/4G license renewal

The government has budgeted Rs 50 billion for 3G/4G license renewal as non-tax revenue for the next financial year 2022-23.

According to the budget documents 2022-23, under property and business income (Telecommunications Authority of Pakistan (surplus), the government has planned to generate Rs 9 billion in the coming financial year against the 4 billion rupees budgeted for the outgoing financial year which was later revised to 3 billion rupees for 2021-22.

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) is responsible for regulating the establishment, operation and maintenance of telecommunications systems and the provision of telecommunications services in Pakistan, to have the applications for the use of spectrum of radio frequencies, to promote and protect the interests of users of telecommunications telecommunications services in Pakistan, to promote the availability of a wide range of high quality, efficient, cost-effective and competitive telecommunications services throughout Pakistan, to promote the modernization telecommunications systems and services, to investigate and adjudicate complaints and other claims brought against licensees arising out of alleged breaches of the provisions of the Act, the rules made and licenses issued thereunder and to take measures accordingly.

It should be mentioned that the PTA collects fees for the issuance and renewal of various telecommunications licenses. It also imposed fines and penalties for violations.
